Interesting Facts about France

France does many, many things very well. They have the best food, wine and being close to Belgium some of the best beer I have ever had. I even love some of their movies (will get into this at another date). One thing I think rather interesting though, is that they have HUGE microphones for anyone who is on a game show or interview session.

I know, sounds crazy. But it's true!! You watch any game show and they all have on these over the ear, wrap around the head microphones. It's like they have not gotten the notice about the small black one that clips to ones lapel. Seriously folks, are you using this as a fashion devise? They mostly look like this:

I don't know why I find this so amusing, but I do. The land of large microphones...this is where I live. Has anyone else noticed this interesting fact? Come on Le Tigre and Leesa...I know you have...

Hmmmm.... I don't remember it at all but I think the one game show that I don't like... It's with the host that has a BIG red birthmark all over his face... I think he wears that... I''ll look out for it now that you mentioned it, though!!

You are not alone in having noticed this. It's definitely used as a status symbol/badge of office. We notice the big hand-held ones predominate and think they are used as a way for presenters to get into presenting/perfoming mode. While they have the microphone in their hand they are 'on', and when they don't have a microphone they are 'off'. Simon, who has worked as a sound engineer, can't understand it, as using booms would result in better sound quality.

Yes, those big dorky hand-held mikes are just crying out: "look at me! I'm in show business!"

When we go to France my father-in-law watches so many games shows and they seem really goofy! Also, it is so funny how they have so many shows with dubbed voices. They sound like the same people who dub all the voices!

Leesa - I know exactly who you are talking about - he gets on my nerves too! It's like they have three hosts and they just move from game to game, I think that is weird too...

susan - glad I'm not the only one!

Justin - check it out, you will now!

WCS - It's the game show host version of a Lamborghini I think...compensation...

Patricia - I know - they dub everything here. I especially love how they changed the words to the Dukes of Hazzard theme song to be sung in French. Very entertaining. I have it in a past post under TV I think...HA!
